HEADDRESS BASE MAKING WORKSHOP
There is no reason to have to contort your neck all night and constantly have to hold on to your headwear or worse - NOT COSTUME!!!
The first part of every great headdress, is a headdress base!
There are so many ways to make a headdress, in this workshop we are going to make custom fit wire, felt frame. From this frame you can build almost anything and wear it comfortably for long hours and many parties. They are easy to make so you can use the technique for any of your future projects.

Things to Know, Our Philosophies and Methodologies
The Faubourg House will have seasonally themed classes and activities focused around the interests of the three founders as well as the year around grass-roots initiatives we support.
This October through April the Faubourg House theme will be creature creation - lowering the barrier to entry to headdress and mask making. By creating a welcoming knowledge sharing environment we hope to allow everyone the space to bring to life wearable, comfortable and unique magical creations that are the essence of the magic of New Orleans.
To be sure we all understand - New Orleans is steeped in Costuming and Masking Culture and there are unlimited ways to make things and just as many groups that make them. The Faubourg House is focused primarily on downtown parading culture, specifically street dancing and parading.
The first classes being offered have been created by me, Lycia. I can often be found dancing through the streets of New Orleans in some sort of crazy something or other. HA! And I love it. These are my tried and tested design techniques that I love to share for high impact movement and long hours. These techniques are easy to make, easy to wear and can make a big statement.
Some of the design principals we work on are:
Work in the non-perfection
Creations will fall apart and that's ok, they are made to be alive.
Decisiveness - don't get stuck on choices and not finish your project.
Design and create with functionality as the highest priority.
Things you to know before you come:
-
You get what you put in - this is not a paint by numbers class. Local creators will help you reach your creative ideas but the inspiration needs to come from you.
-
Here's some helpful places to start:
-
What kind of event are you creating for?
-
What do you want to be for a night or a day?
-
How do you want to move? - Do you want to flow or be sleek?
-
What's the personality? Is it sexy, sassy, wild, mysterious, scary?
-
-
Things may get a little messy - wear something that you don't mind getting mussed up. The techniques we use are relatively clean but when creating you can never tell - so best to be prepared.
We are planning and networking and preparing to soon add more classes and lectures in different styles and accessories.
Keep checking back for new events.
*Locals discount available. And weekly workshop times coming soon.
